Dr. Stephen Vega
Stephen is originally a native of California but has been on the East Coast for eighteen years. He completed his undergraduate studies at Amherst College and went on for medical school to the University of Pennsylvania on a 21st Century Scholarship; a prestigious full tuition merit based award. He did his plastic surgery residency and medical training at the University of Rochester. He completed a fellowship in microsurgery and breast reconstruction under the mentorship of Dr. Joseph M. Serletti.After training, Dr. Vega remained on the academic faculty at the University of Rochester where he was dedicated to advancing the field of breast cancer reconstruction. Dr. Vega has had specialized interest in new surgeries such as the SIEA and TUG-gracilis flaps that use microsurgical technique for breast cancer reconstruction. His work resulted in numerous publications in leading medical journals and presentations at national plastic surgery meetings. He has served on national panels of his colleagues for breast reconstruction and has spoken at breast cancer forums. Dr. Vega is a member of the following associations: American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgery (NESPS), American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgeons (ASRM).
Dr. Vega has been privileged to meet and get to know the stories of his many patients and their families. Now, after four years as faculty at the University, he has decided to open his own private practice. This will allow him to better care for his patients in both cosmetic and reconstructive microsurgery. He remains committed providing excellent service to his patients and referring physicians in the Greater Rochester community.
